CF Montreal begins its season with a setback

CF Montreal began the Hernan Losada era as head coach of the team with a 2-0 loss to Inter Miami CF on Saturday night at DRV PNK Stadium.

Serhiy Kryvtsov, late in the first half, and Shanyder Borgelin, with just under 15 minutes to play in regulation time, scored both goals for Florida against James Pantemis.

The Montreal goalkeeper did not finish the game when he injured his shoulder, shortly after Inter Miami’s second goal.

Pantemis was officially replaced in the 83e minute by Quebecer Jonathan Sirois, who was playing his first regular season game with the Montreal team after having spent the last two campaigns with Valor FC, a club based in Winnipeg, in the Canadian Premier League.

During his post-match press briefing, Losada didn’t have a specific diagnosis to offer the media, but he did step up to say the injury “didn’t look good.”

About two minutes before the insurance goal, Aaron Herrera had come close to leveling the score but his shot from close range was blocked by goalkeeper Drake Callender.

At the start of the match, Callender had made another important save, this one against Sunusi Ibrahim, then another in the 43e minute, about two minutes after the first goal of the match, this time against Romell Quioto.

CF Montreal completed the game with 55.8 percent time of possession and fired 14 shots on Callender’s net, including six on target.

For its part, Inter Miami directed 18 balls towards the Montreal net, including seven on target.

CF Montreal will play its next game on Saturday March 4 in Texas, against Austin FC.
