Former senior civil servant Louis Roquet died Friday at the age of 80.
Former president of the Société des alcools du Québec and Investissement Québec, he was general manager of the city of Montreal from 2009 to 2011.
His death, which occurred overnight from Thursday to Friday, was reported by The duty.
A great public manager, Louis Riquet worked in several government bodies, notably as Secretary General of the City of Montreal from 1994 to 1995, and as Director General of the Montreal Urban Community from 1990 to 1994.
Hired in the wake of the water meter scandal, Mr. Riquet resigned from his post as general manager of the metropolis for personal reasons three years before the end of his mandate.
From 2018 and 2021, he was appointed Chancellor of the University of Montreal. “The departure of Louis Roquet leaves a void in Quebec,” said its rector, Daniel Jutras, on Twitter.
“A sad start. My most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones, ”said former Liberal MP Christine St-Pierre on Twitter.
