Despite numerous interventions by the Quebec Ministry of the Environment, the owners of the Club naturiste Adam et Ève have carried out work on several occasions that has destroyed wetlands and bodies of water. The company is now called upon to restore the affected environments.
As part of the expansion of its facilities, this swinger campground located not far from Drummondville “has committed several breaches in recent years by carrying out work in wetlands and bodies of water”, without the required authorization. under the Environment Quality Act (LQE).
According to a press release published Friday by the Ministry of the Environment and the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, the company, which operates a “nudist campsite for liberated people” has notably carried out ” major excavation work in several places in wetlands”.
She built a 3.2 kilometer road in addition to digging drainage ditches, partially backfilling a pond and adding campsites in wetlands, all without authorization. After analyzing the file, the ministry also describes this work as “significant damage to the environment”.
The owners of the campsite had however been warned in 2014 that any expansion work that would have an impact on wetlands and water would require government authorizations.
However, despite the Department’s interventions, including issuing notices of non-compliance, imposing a fine of $5,000 and issuing a first “order” to stop the work, the company did not still not made the required corrections.
Worse, the work carried out in wetlands in contravention of the EQA in 2021 continued on several occasions in 2022. The ministry therefore imposed a new “ordinance” on it, after having tried, in vain, to obtain a response from the business.
In connection with other breaches of the EQA on this same site and following a criminal investigation, the company and its administrator have already been ordered to pay fines of $45,000 and $15,000 respectively, according to a judgment rendered by the Superior Court of Quebec in July 2022. Another investigation for criminal prosecution is underway in this case, specifies the ministry.
In 2019, a major fire completely destroyed a building on the site, which offers campers the opportunity to “enjoy human warmth and freedom of bodily expression under the mild summer sun”. In 2017, the Adam and Eve Club was also the scene of a double murder followed by a suicide.
