Plans for the All-Nighter

What to see, what to do this Saturday, February 25 on the occasion of the Nuit blanche? Here are the cultural suggestions of our journalists.

The Night of Drunkenness of Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma

The emblematic building of Quartier des Spectacles 2-22, at the crossroads of Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Sainte-Catherine Street, will host an evening devoted to cinema… and drunkenness. The window of Québec Cinéma will thus be transformed into a movie theatre, where we will present Québec short films related to parties, celebrations, drunkenness and all that relates to them. This celebration of Quebec cinematography, from 8 p.m. to midnight, will take place while the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma is in full swing until March 4.

At 2-22 (2, rue Sainte-Catherine Est), from 8 p.m. to midnight

The Centre-Sud district is criss-crossed by three guided tours during the Nuit Blanche.

Three guided walking tours, lasting three hours each, are offered in the Centre-Sud district. They all pass through iconic places – cultural centers, cafés, theatres, galleries – and allow you to meet artists of all kinds. Departures are at 7 p.m. (the location changes depending on the route chosen), but the three visits culminate at the Cabaret Lion d’Or for a festive end of the evening. Free. Reservations required.

On the Lion d’Or side, the irresistible Afrikana Soul Sister collective will expand and offer its tasty mix of electro and African rhythms in a vitaminized Soul Sister Remix Project. Two members of the group, the multi-instrumentalist Jean-François Lemieux and the percussionist Fa Cissokho, will indeed be surrounded by five other musicians of different origins, who will follow one another for three DJ sets from 11 p.m. groove solid in perspective.

The Pointe-à-Callière Museum

The Nuit blanche allows you to walk throughout the city, but also to travel. Thus, festival-goers are invited to visit the exhibitions on display at Pointe-à-Callière free of charge and to take the opportunity to attend artistic performances drawing on Guinean and Chinese cultural traditions. The Kalabanté company and the Montreal Chan Lion Dance Club will host an evening from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in connection with the exhibition The world in mind of the museum, a collection offering a world tour highlighting more than 300 headgear and head ornaments from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas.

The Carnival of Venice

One of the images from the exhibition The Carnival of Venice by Jean-Claude Lussier

Over time, photographer Jean-Claude Lussier has created a special link with Venice and its famous carnival. In his works, he stages mythical characters in a theatrical way, exploring the vaporous and mystical aspects of the Venetian carnival. His exhibition has 32 large-format images, many of which see the light of day for the first time. They are printed on Japanese craft papers which give them a unique look. The exhibition The Carnival of Venice will be open to the public on February 25 from 5 p.m. to midnight.

Until March 11 at the Photographic Art Workshop at 372, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, room 211

Show by Flore Laurentienne as part of the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2021

Radio-Canada’s atrium will welcome visitors from 11 p.m. to midnight for a “tailor-made” performance by instrumental music composer Mathieu David Gagnon, whose Flore Laurentienne project led him to release a second album, Volume II, last fall. The artist will thus present at the Maison de Radio-Canada an exclusive and intimate concert, designed for the occasion. The free one-hour show will take place as part of Radio-Canada’s La Virée nocturne, which, like every year, plans several events on its premises for Nuit blanche.

The party at the Belgo

Laurence Beaudoin-Morin, Study for an even larger landscape (performance)

Each edition of the Nuit blanche is notably marked by the tour of the galleries and art centers of the Belgo building, in the city centre. This year, Laurence Beaudoin-Morin and Tristan Sasseville-Langelier will present a performance at the Laroche/Joncas gallery. SBC offers, among other things, a reflection on tropical tourism. Otherwise, Skol, Espace 230, McBride Contemporain or even Patel Brown will open their doors to art lovers. Have a good trip!

Claudia Bouvette

We’ll be partying all night at the MTelus to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nuit Blanche. From 7 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday, there will be a succession of artists who no longer have to prove themselves when it comes time to get the crowd dancing: Claudia Bouvette, Valaire, Choses Sauvages as well as Kid Koala x Lealani. Four DJs will also take over during this night which promises to be very, very hot.
