“Objectively, motorists are disappointed with these announcements”, reacts Jean-Yves Mano, the president of the association Consumption, Housing and Living Environment (CLCV) this Thursday on franceinfo, after the announcement of a cap on fuel prices in Total stations. A liter of petrol or diesel will not exceed 1.99 euros throughout the year at the 3,400 TotalEnergies stations.
“It’s a promise that costs zero, today Total makes no effort for the French”continues Jean-Yves Mano, while the liter of diesel appears on average at 1.83 euro and that of Unleaded 95 at 1.87 euro. “I propose capping at 1.75 euros per liter, that’s a real cap. (…) The French need a general effort“, he adds, pointing to the general increase in prices.
For his part, Gabriel Attal, the Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts, welcomed this Thursday on franceinfo “an important gesture”, the cost of which for TotalEnergies, “will depend on the increase in the cost of oil this year”, points out the minister. Nevertheless, “if this measure was applied last year, it would have cost 600 million euros to Total”he assures, either “a little more than the discount cost”.
