Quebec | Baby found in cardiorespiratory arrest dies

A one-year-old toddler found himself in cardiorespiratory arrest in a daycare center in Quebec City on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a major operation to transport him to the hospital as quickly as possible, where his death was nevertheless confirmed.




The Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) announced the death of the baby in a press release mid-evening on Wednesday.

A call to emergency services was received around 3:45 p.m. concerning a toddler in cardiorespiratory arrest. He was in a family daycare center on rue des Huards, in the La Haute-Saint-Charles area of ​​Quebec.

Cardiac resuscitation maneuvers were immediately initiated by the person on the phone, said Sandra Dion, spokesperson for the SPVQ. When they arrived, the police took over the manoeuvres, then the paramedics.

The ambulance was escorted by the police through Quebec City to get to the hospital as quickly as possible. Given the start of the rush hour, streets were even closed, describes Mme Dio.

A person who was in the daycare center was also transported by ambulance for nervous shock.

The child’s parents were located and accompanied to the hospital themselves by the police to ensure their safety, said Mr.me Dio.

SPVQ investigators met with daycare staff and the baby’s family to try to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy, in collaboration with the coroner’s inquest.
