The Quebec book industry announced Tuesday the winners of the Prix des libraires – youth component. Four Quebec books and four books published outside Quebec won honours.
In Quebec, it is the third volume of The Space Factor by Guillaume Perreault which caught the attention of the judges in the youth comics category. For books intended for 0 to 5 year olds, the selected book is Clover by Nadine Robert and Qin Leng. The book Miville Hardware by Alexandre Côté-Fournier wins the prize for books ages 6-11. The story chosen for 12-17 year olds is Cancer ascending ostrichby Julie Champagne.
In the “outside Quebec” section, the youth comic strip that captures the attention of local booksellers is Brooklyn Witches by Sophie Escabasse. The prize in the toddler books category goes to The little wooden robot and the log princess by Tom Gauld. For 6-11 year olds, it’s The Winter Sisters of Jolan Bertrand and Tristan Gion who obtains the honors. As for the children’s book for 12-17 year olds most appreciated by the judges, it is Loveless by Alice Oseman.
These favorite books will be featured in an “activity book” in independent bookstores across Quebec.
The Conseil des arts de Montréal awards a $3,000 scholarship to each of the Quebec winners.
