Searches are underway in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, franceinfo learned from the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF), Tuesday, February 21. This operation takes place as part of the investigation opened into a sumptuous dinner given by Laurent Wauquiez, president (LR) of Auverge-Rhône-Alpes, on June 23, 2022, at the expense of the region.
According to the investigative media Mediapart, which had revealed the existence of this “dinner of the summits”, in October, 90 guests were present at the Château de La Chaize (Rhône). Among them, athletes, business leaders or even regional influencers. The cost of the dinner was assessed by Mediapart at “just over 100,000 euros”a final addition of more than 1,100 euros per guest.
The presidency of the region says it is “very serene”
The environmental group of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes had announced to take legal action on October 14. Their report had been sent to the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office, so that “that all suspicion of embezzlement of public funds and illegal taking of interest be lifted”.
Contacted by franceinfo concerning the searches, the presidency of the region declares, via its press service, to be “very serene”. She “is at the disposal of justice to communicate in the greatest transparency all the documents that will be requested from it”.
