Extension of the blue metro line | At least three stations to name

The future stations of the blue line located at the corner of boulevards Viau, Pie-IX and Langelier should not take these names, indicated Monday the big boss of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).

At the municipal council, Éric Alan Caldwell indicated that he wanted these stations to be named differently, possibly to honor women and Aboriginal people. The current metro stations almost all bear the name of the artery where they are located.

Mr. Caldwell was responding to a citizen’s question that highlighted a problem: stations named Viau, Pie-IX and Langelier already exist on the metro’s green line. However, the metro cannot logically have more than one station with the same name, argued this Montrealer.

“I agree with you, we must seize the opportunity for new names, replied the president of the STM. We must also, of course, in all our issues of toponymy, more room for women, multicultural and Aboriginal realities. »

“There is work that has been done in this direction at the STM, said Mr. Caldwell. We look forward to getting back to you on this. That said, we have time, the inaugurations are for 2029. ”
