Late Parise goal wins Islanders victory

Zach Parise scored late in the third period and Brock Nelson scored twice as the New York Islanders won 5-4 against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.

Anders Lee had two goals and an assist, Ilya Sorokin stopped 40 shots and the Islanders snapped a three-game losing streak, including two in overtime. Mathew Barzal had two assists.

For the Penguins, Rickard Rakell scored two goals and Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist. Casey DeSmith blocked 23 shots.

The Penguins lost for the second time in three games.

The Islanders tied the game 4-4 when Nelson scored on the power play for his second of the game and his 24e in the countryside. Bo Horvat won the face-off in offensive territory and Noah Dobson set the table for Nelson’s goal.

Nelson cut the deficit to 3-2 in the second half of the second period, extending his streak of at least one point per game to 12 games, a career high.

Rakell briefly restored a two-goal lead late in the second period, scoring his second goal of the game. Crosby got an assist on the game.

Crosby opened the scoring after 12 minutes with his 25e of the season. The Penguins captain recovered the puck under the opposing goaltender to make it 1-0.

Lee responded quickly with a goal less than two minutes later, into the top of the net.

The Penguins scored twice in 1:42 of play in the second period, taking a 3-1 lead.

Zucker gave the second goal a shot by deflecting defender Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

The visitors had a 12-1 shots on net advantage midway through the second period.

Athanasiou scores in overtime as Blackhawks win 4-3 at Ottawa

Andreas Athanasiou scored at 2:52 in overtime on Friday to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Patrick Kane had two goals including the equalizer, at 16:55 in the third period.

Sam Lafferty was the other scorer for the Hawks, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Petr Mrazek stopped 28 shots, being beaten by Brady Tkachuk, Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto.

Mads Sogaard made 28 saves for Ottawa, which was looking for a third straight win.

Prior to the game, the Senators retired number 25 for Chris Neil, who played 15 seasons with the club.

The Senators will host St. Louis on Sunday afternoon.

The Blackhawks will host Toronto on Sunday night.
