Hospitalizations related to COVID-19 have remained relatively stable in the last few hours, according to the most recent government report. However, the National Institute for Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS) predicts a slight increase in hospitalizations over the next two weeks.
Authorities reported a modest increase of nine patients on Wednesday, for a total of 1,320 hospitalizations, including 437 people who are being treated with COVID-19.
In intensive care, 33 patients remained in this unit, which represents a decrease of two since the previous day. Of these people, 22 are being treated specifically for the disease.
The Ministry of Health has also recorded seven new deaths linked to COVID-19, including one which occurred in the last 24 hours. Three people lost their lives two to seven days ago and three more more than seven days ago. Since the start of the pandemic, 18,037 Quebecers have succumbed to the disease.
Slight increase in hospitalizations in sight
The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 increased again last week, after four weeks of decline. And INESSS predicts that this slight increase should continue over the next 14 days, to reach approximately 100 new patients per day.
The Institute also specifies that, for the week of February 4 to 10, 40% of patients hospitalized with the disease are mainly because of COVID-19.
The number of cases also remains relatively stable, with 576 new infections recorded by the authorities. Quebecers have also reported 44 positive cases detected by rapid tests.
However, the number of COVID-19 cases may be underestimated due to testing centers being restricted to certain priority groups.
In addition, 1135 doses of vaccines were administered on Tuesday.
