For the past six months in Ukraine, a school has been destroyed every two days, according to the NGO Save the children. The daily lives of millions of children are turned upside down.

For a year, the days of solitude follow one another and look alike for Gleb, 14 years old. His city, Kherson (Ukraine), was emptied of its inhabitants. The one who has become, in spite of himself, the face of liberation testifies to his daily life: “Before, in class, I was bored, I sat all day. Now the teachers, I miss my friends, it’s hard.” He follows courses on the Internet, but it is difficult for him to concentrate, especially since the electricity does not always work.

traumatized children

Some children face the departure of their parents for the front, while others develop language disorders. This is the case of Nicolas, helped by a speech therapist: “With stress, more children develop pronunciation problems. We have to help them so that they can speak when the schools reopen.” Establishments remain closed in regions too close to the front lines. According to Unicef, five million Ukrainian children are out of school.
