Between Russia and the supporters of the exclusion of its athletes from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the tone is still rising. With the Ministers of Sports of several countries, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian President, demanded the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian sportsmen from the next Olympics, even under a neutral banner. “The mere representation of the terrorist state at the Paris Olympics in 2024 is a manifestation of violence and impunity”insists Zelensky.
France opposes the participation of Russian athletes
Faced with these statements, Russia denounces a means of harming the values of sport, judging a maneuver “unacceptable”. In a letter dated January 31, Thomas Bach, President of the IOC, criticizes Ukraine for its posture “going against the fundamentals of the Olympic movement”. Russia excludes from the next Olympics, a desire shared by several countries, such as the United Kingdom, Poland and France.
