Rangers win, but lose Shesterkin

Ryan Strome was the only one to sparkle the red light, and the New York Rangers shut out the San Jose Sharks 1-0 on Friday night.

The Rangers were able to celebrate their fifth straight win, but they are now holding their breath as goaltender Igor Shesterkin left the game in the third period.

Shesterkin, who made 19 saves before being replaced by Alexandar Georgiev, appeared to have injured his right leg. The Russian was unable to put weight on his leg as he received help from the Ranger trainer to leave the playing area.

Georgiev stopped all nine shots aimed at him, helping Rangers to a seventh straight home victory. They are 9-2-0 in their last 11 outings.

Adin Hill turned back 25 pucks for the Sharks, who suffered a first three-game loss. The day before, the San Jose Troops had beaten the New York Islanders.

Strome took advantage of a power play to score the only goal of the game. Adam Fox, the winner of the Norris Trophy a few months ago, amassed a 19e mention of assistance on the game.
