Montreal Alouettes | Cody Fajardo arrives and Eugene Lewis leaves the team

The hemorrhage of the Alouettes seems to be coming to an end. According to Farhan Lalji of the TSN network, the Montreal team would have hired quarterback Cody Fajardo, but would lose the services of star receiver Eugene Lewis.

Also according to information from Lalji, Fajardo would have agreed with the Alouettes for a period of two seasons. He was the starting quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the past three seasons. He would therefore compensate for the departure of Trevor Harris, who would take the opposite path.

Fajardo would therefore be reunited with his former offensive coordinator Jason Maas, now head coach of the sparrows.

Last season, the 30-year-old quarterback played in 17 games, threw 16 touchdown passes and had 3,360 yards through the air. By comparison, Harris had 4,157 yards in 18 games in 2022. However, the Californian gained 189 more yards on the ground.

Later Thursday night, Lalji added that Lewis would have signed with the Edmonton Elks for a two-year deal. The CFL Most Valuable Player finalist tweeted in late January that he wanted to test the free agent market.

It is therefore a second star receiver who leaves the metropolis in favor of a formation of the Western Association. Yesterday TSN reported that Jake Wieneke would join Harris in Saskatchewan.

None of his signings have been made official since the CFL’s free agent period begins on Tuesday, February 14 at 12 p.m.
