TRUE OR FAKE. Will the pension reform really benefit Gérald Darmanin’s mother?

Gerald Darmanin often uses the example of his mother as an argument to defend the value of work and recently, to defend the pension reform. “I could also take the case of my housekeeper mom: she is retiring next July at over 67 years of age. (…) It is the only way for her to live with a pension of just over 1500 euros per month”did he declare. According to the biography of the Minister of the Interior, his mother had two jobs: janitor and housekeeper. She began to work young and an incomplete career. She must therefore wait 67 years to receive his retirement full rate.

The pension reform does not change anything

The problem is that the pension reform would change absolutely nothing in her mother’s situation. With a pension amounting to 1500 euros, the minister’s mother is also not concerned by the revaluation of small pensions offered by the government. Gerald Darmanin can therefore defend the values ​​of work by talking about his mother, but if his rights have not progressed so far, this will still not be the case with the reform.
