Alpine Skiing World Cup | Sofia Goggia wins the downhill at Lake Louise

(Lake Louise) Italy’s Sofia Goggia started the World Cup downhill season on the top step of the podium with a victory on Friday in Lake Louise.



Goggia finished in 1: 46.95, ahead of American Breezy Johnson (1: 48.42) and Austria’s Mirjam Puchner (1: 48.49).

Goggia had the fastest time of the only training session on Tuesday.

The training sessions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday have been canceled due to the weather.

Friday’s race took place under partly sunny skies and temperatures of around -10 ° C.

Canada was represented by Marie-Michèle Gagnon (16e), Stefanie Fleckenstein (38e), Roni Remme (43e) and Candace Crawford (51e).

A second descent is on the program on Saturday, before a super-G on Sunday.
