Seven years after its theatrical release, the film La La Land, by Damien Chazelle, will experience a new life on the boards of Broadway. An adaptation is in preparation, announced the production house Lionsgate.
When released in 2016, the musical film starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling was a big hit with audiences and critics. Winner of six Oscars and seven Golden Globes, the feature film tells the love story of an aspiring actress and a jazz musician as they pursue their dreams in Hollywood.
The musical in development has been directed by Bartlett Sher, whose work has won numerous Tony Awards. The team behind the film’s music, namely Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, are also involved in the project, as is the producer of La La LandMarc Platt.
“We have assembled a world-class team to create a musical that will delight the millions of fans of La La Land and which will introduce the story to a whole new audience, ”said the latter, in a press release.
The date of the first performance as well as the distribution have not been revealed for the moment.
