The fire of a house in the Aisne took the lives of eight members of the same blended family, on the night of Monday February 6. Only the father escaped death.

Monday, February 6, children came to lay flowers in a street in memory of one of their comrades, who died in a fire in Charly-sur-Marne (Aisne) with her brothers and sisters. Seven children aged 2 to 14 and their mother all died overnight. When going to bed, the family had left the dryer running, said the father of the family. Burned to the second degree, the 40-year-old winemaker was rescued by a neighbor, a volunteer firefighter. Transported to the hospital, he is the only survivor of the drama. His days would no longer be in danger.

The favored accident thesis

On leaving the school where some of the children of the blended family were educated, the atmosphere is heavy. “We are all horrified”confides a mother. “It was still a big brotherhood, they’ve all been here, they’ve all seen each other at one time or another. I think it’s going to be very, very complicated for the children”, says another resident. In the evening, the investigators are moving towards the thesis of the accident. The deaths were reportedly caused by inhaling toxic fumes.
