Hundreds of Montrealers can no longer compost due to a shortage of brown bins in some boroughs, confirmed The Press.
In Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, Montréal-Nord and Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, citizens whose standard bin (45 litres) has disappeared or is broken must take their troubles patiently for several weeks. Municipal warehouses are empty and will be until spring.

Not before spring
The boroughs will be able to place a new order for bins this month, an order that will not arrive before the spring, however, specifies Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles. In this borough, however, the waiting list only had 17 people as of 1er FEBRUARY. “Once the borough receives the bins in April, each person on the waiting list will receive one directly to their home,” said communications officer Roxanne Néron-Lefebvre. At the central services of the City of Montreal, we did not have an overall picture of this shortage of bins. “We cannot comment on the specific situation,” said publicist Kim Nantais, after emphasizing that the City’s role was to ensure the link between the boroughs and the supplier.
