“We have brought about a revolution in medicine”, notably with gene therapy, assures the general manager of Généthon

Since the creation of the Telethon, “we brought a revolution in medicine”, with in particular gene therapy treatments, provides Friday, December 3 on franceinfo Frédéric Revah, general manager of Généthon, the laboratory of the AFM-Telethon association, carrying out research financed by donations. “Today we are treating diseases considered incurable until now”, welcomes Frédéric Revah, through gene therapies, which go “to replace the sick discomfort in children with genetic diseases”, and cell therapies, “which will provide cells replacing others in the process of degenerating, such as retinal diseases for example” (AMD, among others).

The research carried out by the Genethon has also served to “to treat cancers in adults, by gene therapy”, specifies the director general of the laboratory. It also justifies the difficulty and the duration of research against neuromuscular diseases, “particularly complex” to be treated because “We will have to come and correct all the muscles, throughout the body, which represent nearly 30% of the mass of our body.”
