The victim is believed to be a septuagenarian. The latter was traveling with other snowmobilers on a federated trail located approximately 1.5 kilometers from Rang du Bord-de-l’Eau Est, around 9:45 a.m.

For a still unknown reason, the victim was following the other snowmobilers, but riding slightly off the trail.

“He hit a culvert and was then ejected from his snowmobile,” said Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

In the moments following the collision, the snowmobiler was conscious, but his condition deteriorated extremely rapidly.

One of the participants would have gone to the side of the road to embark a policeman on his vehicle in order to drive him to the place of the accident.

The Sûreté du Québec patrolman began resuscitation maneuvers, but these proved unsuccessful.

This is the second snowmobiler to die in just 24 hours in the province.

Wednesday morning, a snowmobile enthusiast died in a violent head-on collision with a side-by-side type ATV in the Val-Joli sector, in Estrie.
