Like Toronto’s CN Tower, which lit up in the colors of the Montreal Canadiens during its 2021 playoff run, the iconic Empire State Building caused a stir in New York by showing its support for the “bad” NFL team, Sunday.
The skyscraper located in Manhattan was decorated with the color green to congratulate the Philadelphia Eagles for their participation in the Super Bowl.
A tribute difficult to digest for fans of the New York Giants, who saw their favorites eliminated by these same Eagles a week earlier.
Big Apple cornerback Justin Love also expressed his displeasure on Twitter.
“What’s this? Let me close my blinds,” he said.
Although the famous building also lit up in red to mark the Kansas City Chiefs’ participation in the Goodell Circuit Grand Finals, it still made the cover of the “New York Post”, which described this gesture of “treason”.
“It hurt us more than you did,” joked the Empire State Building’s Twitter account.
The Chiefs and Eagles will meet in Glendale, Arizona on February 12.
