(Paris) The novel Soft song by Franco-Moroccan author Leïla Slimani, inspired by a news item that occurred in New York in 2012 and won the Goncourt Prize in 2016, will be adapted into a series by the American channel HBO with Nicole Kidman.
HBO has reached an agreement with the production company Legendary Entertainment “to develop and co-produce a series based on the book by Leïla Slimani Soft song (The perfect nannyin English, editor’s note)”, announced the American television giant HBO in a press release on Saturday.
The cast of the future series will be Australian-American star Nicole Kidman and American actress Maya Erskine, who will also serve as co-executive producers.
This is the second screen adaptation of the novel. Soft song (Gallimard editions) for which Leïla Slimani won the Goncourt Prize in 2016, the most prestigious literary prize in France.
The book, which has sold more than a million copies in France and has been translated worldwide, has already been adapted for cinema in France by director Lucie Borleteau with Leïla Bekhti and Karin Viard in the main roles.
The novel recounts the murder of two young children by their nanny, an experienced and strange woman to whom the parents of the children had become attached. It is inspired by a crime committed in October 2012 in New York which claimed the lives of two children aged two and six. The murderer was sentenced in May 2018 to life imprisonment.
