Three people were killed and at least fourteen injured in a Russian strike on Konstantynivka, a town in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced on Saturday evening.
“The Russian army fired a missile at our town of Konstantynivka in the Donetsk region… They hit the residential area. To date, 17 names appear on the list of victims. 14 are injured. Three people were killed,” he said in his daily address to the nation.
“Unfortunately, such bombardments occur every day on our territories, which the Russian army hits with such missiles. Donbass, Kharkiv region, south of the country… It would be possible to stop this Russian terror if we could provide our military with adequate missiles. So that the terrorists do not have a feeling of impunity,” he continued.
“The Russians fired on a residential area, damaging four-story buildings, a hotel, garages and vehicles,” Donetsk regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said earlier, reporting three dead and 14 wounded.
The governor had indicated that, on the spot, the rescuers and the police “were carefully documenting another crime of the Russian occupiers” in Ukraine.
Footage posted to Mr Kyrylenko’s Telegram account shows apartment buildings with blown windows and debris strewn around the charred wreckage of a car.
According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Russia carried out attacks on Konstantynivka with multiple rocket launchers.
Almost a year after its invasion of Ukraine, Moscow is seeking to take control of the entire Donetsk region, which it has already declared an integral part of Russia.
kyiv said this week that Russian troops had intensified their attacks in the east, notably on the towns of Vougledar and Bakhmout.
Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that the situation at the front was extremely difficult, especially in the Donetsk region.
