(Melbourne) Australians Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler won the Australian Open doubles final 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) against the pair of Monegasque Hugo Nys and Poland’s Jan Zielinski on Saturday in Melbourne.
The surprising Australian duo, who played the tournament thanks to an invitation, eliminated Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski, seeds N.1, in the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals the experienced Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos (N.8 ).
This is the second successive year that an Australian pair have won this Major after the victory of Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis last year.
