Watch out, phenomenon! Bruno de Sá, 33, is a Brazilian soprano. “Sopraniste” means that his voice is even higher than a countertenor. The first notes of the air of Griselda, of Alessandro Scarlatti, who opens the CD, seize therefore. Among the men who “sing loudly”, we heard Philippe Jaroussky. Bruno de Sá is even more stratospheric. The miracle is that it doesn’t sound contrived. Bruno de Sá, whose voice has not changed, is a natural soprano and his story is miraculous: 10 years ago, he took his first singing lessons; in 2019, he entered the Schola Cantorum in Basel, a Mecca for Baroque education. From there, he was spotted and knighted by Philippe Jaroussky. A whole repertoire awaits him. This one was born, in Rome, in the XVIIIe century, of the ban on having women on stage, which forced them to distribute their roles to men. There is no doubt that some will also exploit the possibility of disguising Bruno de Sá in the productions (the operetta!). A stunning and promising CD.
