Joe Biden is betting on economic growth to defend his record

(Washington) Joe Biden hears, during a speech Thursday that the White House promises “major”, both to credit the robust American growth and to pound the economic projects of the Republicans.

The American president, who must say soon if he will be a candidate again in 2024, will praise “the significant economic progress made under his leadership”, in front of an assembly of workers in Virginia, not far from Washington, indicated an official from the American executive who did not wish to be identified.

It’s a safe bet that Joe Biden, who has not commented on them so far, will welcome the robust economic statistics released on Thursday.

The growth of the American gross domestic product was indeed established at 2.1% for the whole of 2022.

The 80-year-old Democrat wants, according to the same source, to show how the gigantic recovery and investment plans adopted since his arrival at the White House two years ago have “helped (the) economy to overcome the crisis and laid the foundations for solid and stable growth”.

He will take the opportunity to launch within his government a group called “Invest in America” (Investing in the State), led by several secretaries.

But Joe Biden, in what almost looks like an electoral warm-up, also intends to pound the economic projects of his Republican opponents, while former President Donald Trump, already a candidate for the 2024 election, really intends to start his campaign this weekend.

The projects of the conservatives, now masters of the House of Representatives, are “the greatest threat” weighing on the economy, affirms the official of the Biden administration already quoted.

The American president therefore wants, according to him, to go “on the offensive” to criticize in particular a project for a generalized tax on consumption of 30%, and to reproach the right for wanting to cut in social benefits.
