Between 15 and 25 centimeters of snow fell on southern Quebec overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, forcing motorists to exercise caution on the road in the morning.
Environment Canada is issuing winter storm weather warnings for the Gaspésie, Baie-Comeau, Beauce, Charlevoix, Rivière-du-Loup and Quebec regions.
A total of 20 to 30 centimeters of snow will be added to gusts of more than 70 km/h and blowing snow during the course of the day for several of these sectors.
“Heavy snow, very strong winds and blowing snow will invade Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie and Côte-Nord this morning. Conditions will gradually improve starting tonight. »
In the greater region of Quebec and Beauce, we expect nearly 5 to 10 centimeters more during the day Thursday, while 10 to 15 centimeters are still expected in the Bas-Saint-Laurent today.
In Lanaudière and the Laurentians, moderate winds are expected with an additional 5 centimeters of snow. The same temperature is forecast for the Montreal and Laval regions.
However, the rapid accumulation of snow could make travel difficult in some places. Visibility will suddenly be reduced to almost zero in heavy snow and blowing snow, we are advised.
