A former Loto-Québec employee punished for having dipped into customer accounts

A former Loto-Québec employee received a 12-month sentence to be served at home on Monday after admitting that he was using his professional access to embezzle amounts of money drawn from the accounts of registered users of online gambling platforms.


Martin Raymond, a 38-year-old resident of Lanaudière, was arrested in 2021 by the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit (UPAC). He had pleaded guilty to charges of fraud, breach of trust and fraudulently obtaining computer services on November 29. The crown had dropped three other counts in consideration, including that of identity theft.

A former employee of the online gambling call center, Mr. Raymond managed to embezzle around $22,000 from around 30 customer accounts, according to UPAC. It was Loto-Québec’s internal security services that noticed suspicious actions on his part and alerted the police.

During the employee’s arrest, the state-owned company assured that as a result of the investigation, no customer had lost any money, measures having been taken to return them what was owed to them .
