(Ottawa) The Tesla Model 3 will no longer be at the top of the list of electric cars with the most refunds in Canada.
Transport Canada says the popular battery-powered vehicle was removed from the federal zero-emission vehicle rebate eligibility list at the end of November.
Automaker Tesla has just increased the base price of its “Model 3” to $ 59,990, well above the limit of $ 45,000 to take advantage of the federal rebate of $ 5,000.
In 2019, the company lowered its sale price to just under $ 45,000, in an attempt to make it eligible for the Canadian rebate.
Since the start of the reimbursement program in May 2019, nearly 35,000 Tesla have qualified, more than double the Toyota Prius, which comes second.
More than half a billion dollars have been spent on refunds on electric vehicles over the past three years in Canada, more than a third of which has gone to Tesla.
