Valérie Donzelli confides: “I have three children and I have had an abortion three times”

Valérie Donzelli is back with Nona and her daughters, mini-series in which she notably gives the answer to Miou-Miou, who plays her mother falling pregnant at 70, as well as to Clotilde Hesme and Virginie Ledoyen, who play her sisters. It is with the latter that she confided in Paris Match.

Evoking the similarities of the characters in their relationship to pregnancy, Valérie Donzelli gave her own feelings. “The difference with Nona is that I wanted a child (…) Me, I’ve always wanted children, I had the first at 24 years old and it seemed to me to be totally natural, like breathing. I didn’t ask myself if it was the right time (…) I had three children and had three abortions. What makes me happy is that the children I had, I really wanted them. I find it strange to feel forced to have today knowing that we can have an abortion“she said sincerely.

Valérie Donzelli, who is the type to draw inspiration from her own life for her artistic projects, is the mother of Gabriel and Rebecca, children born from her story that ended with Jérémie Elkaïm. In May 2016, the now 48-year-old actress posed on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival with a baby bump heralding a third pregnancy, but she was careful not to reveal the identity of her new companion. However, it is known that she gave birth to a baby boy.

Today, she is savoring her life as a mother and her chance to be able to pursue her career in show business but is well aware that it is not always so easy for all women and that it sometimes has consequences on the relationships between mothers and their children. “If we were on a real parity, women could also breathe and have a better relationship with their children.“, she says.
