For its first post-pandemic edition, the Prix collégial du cinéma québécois (PCCQ) is broadening its horizons by including a “short film” component. A total of 10 films are vying for top honors this year.
Québec Cinéma unveiled Thursday the works that will inspire the filmmakers of tomorrow as part of the 12e PCCQ edition.
The feature films in competition this year are Arsenault & Sons by Rafael Ouellet Baby sitter by Monia Chokri Falcon Lake by Charlotte LeBon, A summer like this by Denis Cote and viking by Stephane Lafleur.
For the first time, short films will be submitted to young Quebec audiences. On this side of the list of selected, we find To life to love by Emilie Mannering, The left hand by Maxime Robin The Lauzon theory by Marie-Josee Saint-Pierre, Oasis by Justine Martin and Simo by Aziz Zoromba.
Submitting films from here to the eyes of the college community transmits “all the effervescence and beauty of our Quebec cinema to the new generations, young cinephiles fervent in discovery”, remarks one of the persons in charge of the event, Sylvie Quenneville, the director General of Quebec Cinema.
A jury made up of a handful of film specialists has selected the films that will be presented across Quebec in the coming weeks.
Students from around fifty CEGEPs will be invited to view these films at various local events, then will have to critique them by sharing their point of view with their college colleagues. Representatives from each establishment will take part in the final deliberations, which will be held at the end of March in Quebec City, in order to choose the two winning films.
The names of the two winning works will be revealed on the 1er april.
On the list of former winners, we find names such as Stéphane Lafleur, Xavier Dolan, Denis Côté, François Delisle, Martin Fournier and Pier-Luc Latulippe.
