Thursday, December 2, France 2 will broadcast an issue of “Complément d’études” entitled “Municipal police: the new mercenaries”. In St Laurent du Var, in the Alpes-Maritimes, the mayor’s police are expensive: 2.4 million euros per year just for salaries, not to mention the price of equipment: five scooters at 20,000 euros each and six cars, among others.
It is one of the best equipped municipal police forces in France. “The complete equipment that Alexandre wears, we are approaching more or less 6,000 euros”, indicates a policeman. This state-of-the-art equipment is not their only advantage. If the national police officers do not choose their assignment, at the municipal level, the transfers are granted automatically, in three months maximum.
