Teachers from the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality of Quebec on strike Monday

Some 140 members of the Union of Teachers of the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec-CSN (SEEITHQ-CSN) will begin a strike on Monday, due to the deadlock in negotiations for the renewal of their contract. collective.

Without a collective agreement since March 31, 2020, union members voted 97% in favor of an eight-day strike bank last November, to be used when deemed appropriate.

In a press release published on Sunday, the union said it had no choice but to exercise this strike mandate “given the lack of sufficient progress at the bargaining table”.

A picket will be organized in front of the Institute, from Monday noon.

In particular, the workers demand wages adapted to their workload and deplore the fact that it takes on average a decade to acquire a permanent position.

“The employer never takes seniority into account when assigning tasks to professors. It also does not recognize teaching experience acquired elsewhere for salary step advancement. Management even refuses to allow a teacher to be accompanied by a union representative when they meet! These unfair treatments must stop quickly,” said Léandre Lapointe, vice-president of the National Federation of Quebec Teachers, responsible for private grouping (FNEEQ-CSN), in a press release last November.
