Old Port of Montreal | A woman rescued from the waters of the St. Lawrence after calling 911 herself

(Montreal) A 19-year-old woman who fell into the St. Lawrence River while in the Old Port of Montreal was rescued Sunday morning by emergency services after calling 911 herself.

The woman was alone and was trying to take a photograph when she fell into the freezing water, said Urgences-santé spokesperson Steve Kouloumentas.

Firefighters, paramedics and officers from the Montreal Police Service received the victim’s call around 7:15 a.m. She was rescued “more or less 25 minutes after the start of the incident”, according to Mr. Kouloumentas.

The woman was then transported to a hospital in a state of hypothermia. Fortunately, “as she was conscious and breathing, her condition does not inspire fear,” said Mr. Kouloumentas.
