The nine judges of the Court supreme vote Thursday, December 2 on a Mississippi law that prohibits abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, even in cases of rape or incest. The Supreme Court having been reshuffled by Donald Trump, the judges are now at conservative majority. They could therefore reconsider this case law which has governed abortion for nearly 50 years.
“This right to abortion [est] protected and guaranteed by two Supreme Court rulings, 1973 and 1992, explains Thomas Donzel, correspondent in Washington for France Télévisions, in the 8 Heures de France 2. The whole question now is whether the Court can go back on its own case-law.“The nine judges, six of whom are conservatives,”seem to lean in favor of this questioning“, adds the journalist, before continuing: “For his part, Joe Bien indicated that he was in favor of maintaining the current case law..“The Supreme Court ruling is not expected to be delivered for several weeks.
