Electricity rates for Quebec businesses could be revised upwards, suggested Thursday the Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, Pierre Fitzgibbon.

“We must be careful, the question of the price of the electron must be reviewed. The world price of energy is increasing, so it is certain that we must be careful to whom we allocate and at what price we allocate, ”said Mr. Fitzgibbon during a scrum with the press.
Aluminum smelters would therefore not escape this tariff revision, even if they are profitable for the province.
“When we talk about productivity per hour worked, it’s a very important factor, in Quebec the average is not $50 an hour, it’s $175,” explained the minister, speaking of the aluminum.
This reflection comes a few days before the announcement of the departure next April of the president and CEO of Hydro-Québec, Sophie Brochu. Several disagreements had been observed between her and the Legault government concerning the future projects of the Crown corporation.
