Snow and freezing rain expected this week in Quebec

Significant amounts of snow and freezing rain are expected in most regions of Quebec on Thursday and Friday.

“We will still have several regions that will have good amounts of snow, we estimate between 15 to 25 centimeters,” says meteorologist for Environment Canada, Simon Legault.

The more sustained snow will gradually begin Thursday evening in Southwestern Quebec before spreading to the other central and eastern regions of the province on Friday morning. Blowing snow is also expected.

In southern Quebec, rain and a brief episode of freezing rain are expected on Friday. The arrival of a cold front on Friday evening should put an end to the precipitation, which will once again change to snow. Snow showers should gradually end on Saturday.

Environment Canada warns that road conditions could be dangerous during this period due to icy roads and variable visibility that can quickly change from good to zero.

“Friday morning rush hour could be complicated. The winds could also complicate the situation,” says Mr. Legault.

This system is caused by a depression coming from Colorado moving towards Quebec while intensifying.
