A woman lost her life in a violent confrontation that occurred on Route 167 in Chibougamau late Monday afternoon, while two other people were injured. Difficult road conditions also caused one of the ambulances trying to get to the scene to go off the road.
The accident occurred around 3 p.m. around kilometer 212 of Route 167, in Chibougamau, in the Nord-du-Québec region. This road connects Lac-Saint-Jean to Mistissini via Chibougamau.
For a still unknown reason, one of the cars deviated from its route before entering another, coming in the opposite direction.
The temperature, especially the snow, could have played a role in the accident, but an investigation will determine it, indicates Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
In one of the vehicles, two women were seriously injured. One of them, the driver, was taken to hospital in critical condition and died of her injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured.
Several ambulances were dispatched to the scene, including one that veered off the road and rolled over several times, reports Mme Dorsainville. The paramedics were not injured and there was no break in service either, she said.
The portion of Route 167 where the accident took place has been closed to traffic while the investigation is underway.
