QMJHL | Mooseheads thrash Eagles 11-3

(Cape Breton) Josh Lawrence led the Mooseheads offense with four goals and three assists as the Halifax club beat the Cape Breton Eagles 11-3 on Saturday.


Zachary L’Heureux and Jordan Dumais also distinguished themselves in the victory by collecting four and three points respectively.

L’Heureux, captain of the Mooseheads, scored a goal and was an accomplice to two of Lawrence’s nets as well as Dumais’s first of the game.

For his part, Dumais took advantage of his performance of two goals and one assist to widen the gap at the top of the Courteau circuit’s scorer rankings. In 31 games, he amassed 68 points.

QMJHL top scorer Alexandre Doucet scored his 31e campaign net in addition to collecting aid.

Jake Furlong, Cameron Whynot and Mathieu Cataford also hit the target for the visitors. Markus Vidicek had three assists.

Ivan Ivan provided the response for the Eagles by threading the needle twice. Luke Patterson also hit the mark.

Mathis Rousseau stopped 24 shots in the win.

The situation was more complex on the other side of the ice. The Eagles have made three goalie changes. In two appearances on the ice, Giovacchino DiMattia stopped 24 of the 31 shots he faced while Xavier Farrah allowed four goals on 12 shots.

Titan 2 – Islanders 3

Jérémie Biakabutuka crowned the Islanders’ comeback by scoring with 43 seconds left in the third period and the Charlottetown team took the measure of the Acadie Bathurst Titan 3-2.

Wildcats 4 – Sea Dogs 1

The Wildcats scored three goals in less than five minutes to start the third period and the Moncton team beat the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-1.

Phoenix 5 – Ramparts 2

Justin Gill had two goals and an assist, Olivier Adam stopped 27 shots and the Sherbrooke Phœnix won 5-2 against the Quebec Remparts, who saw their winning streak cut to four.

Voltigeurs 5 – Océanic 4 (fus.)

Tyler Peddle moved the ropes in the sixth round of shootout and the Drummondville Voltigeurs ended the Rimouski Océanic’s eight-game winning streak with a 5-4 lead.

Drillers 0 – Huskies 8

Emeric Gaudet, Olivier Dubois and Anthony Turcotte each scored two goals and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies crushed the Val-d’Or Foreurs 8-0.

Drakkar 6 – Saguenéens 5 (prol.)

Marshall Lessard scored his second goal of the game in overtime and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar scored four straight goals to overthrow the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 6-5 and end their losing streak at five.

Cataracts 2 – Tigers 5

Pier-Olivier Roy broke the tie midway through the third period and the Victoriaville Tigres defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes 5-2.

Olympics 5 – Armada 4

Cam MacDonald scored two goals, Emerik Despatie made 24 saves and the Gatineau Olympiques beat the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 5-4.
