At 75, the singer is not ready to hang up his career… Yet this is what he had hinted at a few years ago. For 2023, he has the big plan to go back on the paths of a major French-speaking tour and is already training there by taking singing lessons three hours a day. From Deauville more precisely, where he resides far from the bustle of Paris alongside his wife, Anne-Marie, former journalist and sister of photographer Jean-Marie Périer. A region close to his heart and where he was able to indulge his great passion for racehorses for decades. But today, he is forced to give up this pleasure which is no longer one… To our colleagues from “Actu.fr”, he confided thus on December 25: “I stopped the horses because that I was very disappointed. I did breeding, my products did not give what I expected and yet I had put the package! After a while, I got tired of being fourth, fifth… It costs a fortune”, explained the interpreter of “Lakes of Connemara”. While acknowledging having “won a lot of races”, the singer especially regrets having “launched into breeding” explaining: “I told Rouget (horse trainer, editor’s note), if my last yearlings are not good, we let it go. And we gave up”.
“It is Delon who bought me a walker”
But this is not the only reason that prompted Michel Sardou to stop this unprofitable activity. There is also an emotional shock behind this decision… His friend, Alec Head, died in June 2022. It was he who successfully bred the singer’s horses in his Quesnay stud farm, near Deauville. However, his family decided to sell this estate, which upset the singer: “Now I wouldn’t know where to put my horses. I was at home in Quesnay, I did what I wanted, I went, I came”… he regrets deeply. A page is definitively turned in the life of the artist who remembers with emotion his first equestrian emotions in the 1970s thanks to… Alain Delon! “It was Delon who bought me a walker. At four o’clock in the morning. We won the European Championship in Rome. His name was Duc de Vrie”, he also confided to our colleagues. His passion was born from this incredible gift followed by a triumphant victory. Today, Michel Sardou definitely prefers to close these chapters that marked his life.
