(Toronto) The body of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer who was murdered earlier this week will be returned to his hometown north of Toronto on Friday.
Barrie police announce that the public will be able to witness the passage of the motorcade carrying Constable Greg Pierzchala on overpasses spanning Highway 400.
The motorcade is due to leave the Chief Coroner’s office in Toronto at 9 a.m.
Police say Greg Pierzchala responded to a call for a vehicle stuck in a ditch west of Hagersville, southern Ontario, on Tuesday afternoon and was fatally shot with a gunshot wound. to fire in an ambush on his arrival.
The OPP says funeral details for Constable Pierzchala, 28, are expected to be released in the coming days and that the investigation into the shooting is continuing in the meantime.
A 25-year-old man, Randall McKenzie, and a 30-year-old woman, Brandi Crystal Lyn Stewart-Sperry, are both facing first degree murder charges in connection with the incident.
Court documents show that Randall McKenzie was granted bail in connection with another case last June after initially being refused in December 2021. At that time, he was awaiting trial in Hamilton for a a number of charges including assault, assault on a peace officer and several firearms offences.
Last August, a judge issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to show up for a scheduled court appearance.
