Senators snap Capitals winning streak

Alex DeBrincat tied the game before playing the heroes in overtime and the Ottawa Senators beat the Washington Capitals 4-3 on Thursday night.

Tim Stutzle hit the target with 15.3 seconds left in the second period to start the comeback. DeBrincat tied the game with 5:43 left in the game and secured the victory for his team in the 91st^e second of overtime.

Cam Talbot rebounded after allowing two goals on the first eight shots and finished the game with 22 saves. Jake Sanderson also scored for the Senators, who won a second straight game.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 23^e goal of the season and his 803^e career for the Capitals, who saw their winning streak stop at five. The Washington team hadn’t lost since Dec. 15.

Dylan Strome and Evgeny Kuznetsov also flashed the red light in a losing cause as Darcy Kuemper stopped 41 pucks.

Capitals defenseman Erik Gustafsson had at least one point in his sixth straight game. Kuznetsov meanwhile saw his streak increase to four games.

Mark Scheifele scores three goals as Jets beat Canucks 4-2

Mark Scheifele led the way with three goals as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 on Thursday.

Pierre-Luc Dubois also hit the mark for the Jets, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey each had two assists.

Conor Garland and Andrei Kuzmenko replied for the Canucks, who had won their previous three games.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 20 shots in front of the Jets net. For the Canucks, Collin Delia stopped 35 shots.

Garland brought the Canucks within a goal of the Jets by scoring 13:11 into the third period. He recovered a rebound from the boards behind the net, then bounced the disc against Hellebuyck.

However, Scheifele restored the Jets’ lead by scoring in an empty-netter with 28 seconds left on the clock.

It was Scheifele’s second hat trick this season and his seventh career.

Tyler Seguin scores twice as Stars beat Wild 4-1

Wyatt Johnston broke the tie early in the third period, Tyler Seguin provided two goals and the Dallas Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-1 on Thursday.

Jamie Benn also hit the target for the Stars, who outshot the Wild 43-25. Jake Oettinger stopped 24 shots for his third straight victory.

Kirill Kaprizov scored his 20^e goal of the season for the Wild. Marc-André Fleury made 39 saves.

The Stars won the special teams battle, scoring twice on three power plays and shutting out the Wild on both occasions in the same situation.

The score was 1-1 at the start of the third period. Johnston scored for the fourth time in five games to give the Stars the lead. Benn widened the gap on the power play, then Seguin scored his second goal of the game by shooting into an empty net.

Calle Rosen breaks deadlock, Blues triumph over Blackhawks

Calle Rosen scored the game-winning goal as the St. Louis Blues edged the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 on Thursday night.

Rosen’s goal broke a 1-1 second period tie and gave the Blues their second win in as many games against the Blackhawks this season.

Josh Leivo and Brandon Saad also hit the mark for the Blues. Jordan Binnington made 21 saves.

The Blues are 9-0-2 in their last 11 games against the Blackhawks. It’s their longest point streak against Chicago.

Patrick Kane threaded the needle for the Blackhawks, who are 1-10-0 in their last 11 games and 2-17-1 in their last 20.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Mathew Barzal help Islanders defeat Blue Jackets 2-1

Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Mathew Barzal moved the ropes in the second period and the New York Islanders defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Thursday.

Ilya Sorokin made 20 saves in net for the Islanders, who won a third straight game.

The Blue Jackets suffered a seventh straight loss. They have also lost 10 of their last 12 meetings.

Emil Bemstrom scored the only goal for the Blue Jackets. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 34 shots.

Pageau opened the scoring at 7:12 of the second period. He intercepted a pass in the defensive zone, then pushed a loose puck past Korpisalo moments later.

Barzal widened the gap on the power play at 16:39 of the second period. Pageau canceled out a Blue Jackets clearance attempt, then Brock Nelson set the table for Barzal with a cross pass.

Bemstrom deprived Sorokin of a shutout by beating him in the last minute of play. A shot from Marcus Bjork deflected off him before ending up behind the goal line.

Kyle Okposo scores hat trick in Sabers win

Kyle Okposo scored a hat trick as the Buffalo Sabers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 on Thursday night.

Casey Mittelstadt scored twice as Jeff Skinner found the back of the net once for the Sabers, who posted their fifth straight win.

Owen Power, Zemgus Girgensons and JJ Peterka all finished the game with two assists for the Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 28 saves.

The Sabers hadn’t practiced for a week. The Buffalo area is recovering from a blizzard that killed at least 40 people.

Dominik Kubalik scored twice for the Red Wings, who lost for the seventh time in their last nine games. Jordan Oesterle added a goal while Magnus Hellberg stopped 29 shots.

The Sabers took the lead with four second-period goals to take a 5-0 lead.

Alex Killorn ends shootout debate, Lightning win 2-1

Alex Killorn ended the debate in the sixth round of the shootout and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the New York Rangers 2-1 on Thursday night.

Brayden Point scored in regulation time and in the shootout for the Lightning, which saw Andrei Vasilevskiy shine with 45 saves.

Mika Zibanejad moved the ropes in regulation time for Rangers. Igor Shesterkin, who is 4-0-1 in five games against the Lightning, stopped 39 shots.

Point tied the game in the third period with his 20^e goal of the campaign. The center player has scored 14 goals in his last 15 games.

Zibanejad opened the scoring at 14:25 of the first period, beating Vasilevskiy with his ninth goal in as many games.

The Lightning goalkeeper made some great saves in overtime, while his team passed a penalty to Victor Hedman. On the other end, Shesterkin closed the door on Steven Stamkos.
