Adam Ottavino stays with the Mets for one season

(New York) The New York Mets have signed reliever Adam Ottavino to a one-year contract, who remains with the New York team and will once again play a supporting role for star stopper Edwin Diaz.

The deal Ottavino signed includes an option clause at the player’s discretion for 2024.

Ottavino became a free agent after going 6-3 in 2022, with a 2.06 ERA and three save games in 66 outings.

The 37-year-old Ottavino, who grew up in Brooklyn, limited right-handed hitters to a .161 collective average in 2022.

He had 79 strikeouts and conceded only 16 walks in 65 2/3 innings. His performances helped the Mets make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

In career, Ottavino is 38-34 with a 3.44 ERA and 33 save games in 12 major league seasons with five different organizations.
