The 23-year-old broke the 1,632-yard mark set by Randy Moss in 2003 when he caught a 25-yard throw in the first quarter of his 27-24 win over the New York Giants.
Jefferson finished the duel with 12 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. In 15 games so far in 2022, the star player has covered 1,765 yards.
He is thus approaching the NFL record of 1,964 yards in a campaign. It was former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson who pulled off the feat in 2012.
Jefferson has two games left to set a new mark, taking on the Green Bay Packers (Jan. 1) and Chicago Bears (Jan. 8).
The LSU Tigers product was a first-round pick (22nd overall) of the Vikings in the 2020 draft. In nearly three seasons on the Goodell Homer, Jefferson put his hands on 319 fly balls for 4,772 yards and 25 touchdowns.
