Part of the Montreal metro shut down during rush hour

Several Montreal metro stations were shut down during rush hour Thursday night. The use of cayenne pepper by a customer would be the cause of this inconvenience.

The orange line was stopped for several minutes, around 6 p.m., between Square Victoria and Rosemont stations. Same thing on the yellow from the Berri-UQAM station, to Jean-Drapeau.

The green line was also stopped for a few minutes between Lionel-Groulx and Viau. Service was able to resume quickly.

According to the STM, a customer sprayed cayenne pepper in the air. The highly volatile pepper spray would have spread in the ventilation ducts of several stations. Cayenne pepper being considered a hazardous material, an evacuation order was given.
