Jessie Fleming named Canada’s Soccer Player of the Year again

Jessie Fleming of the Women’s National Team has been named Soccer Canada’s Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

The leaders of Soccer Canada made the announcement in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

Fleming joins Charmaine Hooper and Christine Sinclair in becoming just the third Women’s National Team player to win the title in two straight seasons.

The 24-year-old from London, Ont., won the title in 2022 after a year in which she helped Canada qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. Canada then won the silver medal at the Concacaf Women’s Championship.

Fleming also helped her professional club Chelsea FC win the title in the 2021-22 English Women’s Super League and the League Cup in England.

Fleming was also named to the Concacaf Women’s Championship All-Star Team, where she played in all five of Canada’s games. Her three goals tied her for the tournament lead.

She scored in the opener against Trinidad and Tobago, netted the winning goal against Costa Rica to secure top spot in Group B and netted the winning goal against Jamaica to help Canada reach the final.

Canada’s Most Outstanding Male Player honor will be unveiled on Thursday.
