Europe has been experiencing for more than a year the “most devastating” avian flu epidemic ever observed on its soil, health authorities said on Tuesday, with around 50 million poultry slaughtered in farms infected with the virus.

Between October 2021 and September 2022, 37 European countries were affected by avian flu, and nearly 2,500 outbreaks detected on farms across the continent, according to a report by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Center of prevention.
