The police investigation opened by the Montpellier prosecutor’s office last night, Wednesday, December 14, after the death of young Aymen, is advancing rapidly. The tragedy took place on avenue de Barcelona, on the sidelines of the semi-final match of the 2022 World Cup, France-Morocco.
Aymen, 14, was fatally hit by a sector car from La Paillade in Montpellier on Wednesday evening at 10:35 p.m., after the match between France and Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
Following the tragedy, the Hérault prefecture published its first information on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, in a press release indicating that “the investigation is progressing rapidly under the direction of the prosecution”. The driver’s vehicle was found “a few meters from the accident and placed in receivership”.
This morning, Thursday December 15, the Montpellier prosecutor’s office took stock of the situation “many investigations and technical examinations are underway to find the perpetrator”.
Thanks to numerous testimonies, vehicles and various sometimes contradictory elements, the author of the facts is now identified. It would seem that he is known to the La Paillade district, however, no additional information has been given, so as not to hinder the smooth running of the investigation.
His act could be the result of a movement of panic when he was surrounded by supporters, which would in no way excuse his actions and his escape, the police assume. His arrest should take place in the coming days.
Another individual is under the control of the police but for the moment, it is impossible to know if it is a relative of the person sought, a witness or the driver of the vehicle.
For its part, Aymen’s family spoke this morning, Thursday, December 15. “We call for the greatest calm and express our confidence in the institutions of the Republic, police and justice, so that the perpetrator is arrested and tried.
